I'm Doing It Again (and again and again) Baby!

I'm back from another long semester (and summer course) with another blog puzzle! Apparently since I last published on here, Wix has begun offering AI suggestions for posts. They're all stuff like "Tech: The Cruciverbological Angle." Apparently their AI doesn't know that I made that word up.

For non-CS people, this puzzle is about recursion (correctly working recursion, not whatever is happening in the image I found). Here is a good explanation.

One more thing: I have an outlet debut coming up on 6/19 that I'm excited about, so make sure to check DCL that day!!

Happy first blog puzzle of 2024! I constructed it in one night while staying up to find out if my university TAs were going on strike or not. (They were not.) I've been wanting to make this puzzle for months, though, and I'm so happy I finally get to share it with you all!

Since my last blog puzzle, I've gotten to check two awesome things off my crossword bucket list: I was a constructor for the Boswords Winter Wondersolve, and I'm a contributor to These Puzzles Fund Abortion 4, which will be released soon! I had so much fun working on my puzzles for both of these things, and I'm so grateful to John and Rachel (and the rest of the TPFA team) for letting me work with them.

I'm working on getting in speed solving shape for my second ACPT! Unfortunately, I'll miss the last day (eclipse chasing) but will try to be so far ahead by Saturday that even Paolo Pasco can't catch up. (This is a joke. I came in 637th last time and my only goal is to do better than that.)

This puzzle is a birthday present for my dad, who wrote a paper on this subject in 2016. Happy birthday and happy solving!

DNA is kinda based

 

I saw this comic a few months ago, and naturally I had to write my own DNA-Palooza at some point! Don't worry, though, no actual codons are involved, and there are other letters in the puzzle than A, T, C, and G. (There are only so many CATs and TAGs and TACTs you can use.)

In other news, I started constructing puzzles for my university newspaper this fall! I can't link to online versions because there are no online versions, but I usually take a picture of the print version and post it on Twitter/X and Bluesky. If you can solve with online images, give them a try!

Entangled

Happy fall, everyone! Between creating Words on Fire and embarking on a few other crossword adventures (guess who made and submitted his first themeless grid??), it's been a while since I put an actual puzzle up on the blog. I hope to resume the every-few-weeks norm this year, but full disclosure, my time is now split between this and weekly midis for my university newspaper.

It's also (roughly) Cruciverbology's first birthday! To celebrate, I redid one of the first puzzles I published on this blog-- now with fresh fill and clues, plus some updates to the original themeset. If you weren't around back in 2022, have fun solving this puzzle for the first time! If you were, um... feign surprise when you figure out the revealer. (Me from the future here; I did not bother uploading the original to the new site.)

After this, I promise that's it for the redos. Fresh themes loading in coming weeks :)
